2Great product - if you play for 5 minutes or lessJul 23, 2007
By Steven J. Freeman "Soulcatcher"
Bought a bunch of these to take on vacation with the family, and had a great time playing with them for about 5 minutes. By that time, they started coming apart. The velcro on the round-catcher comes off the plastic, so you can't catch the velcro ball anymore. I was able to reglue the velcro, but it took long enough to dry that we didn't have time to play anymore before the rain came in.
I'd be more disappointed, but it didn't cost very much. Be forewarned - if you buy this, get some glue as well!

4Tears But Still GoodFeb 27, 2011

I actually bought 4 sets to use for my teeball team last year. I took one out right away to test out with my 3 year old son and both paddles came apart within 5 minutes of use. The reason they come apart is that the velcro is so strong you have to really pull on the ball to get it off of the paddle. If it's near the edge and you sort of roll/twist it to the edge as you pull it off I think this makes it last much longer (of course he little ones can't do this as well). By the way, it's fairly hard for them to pull the ball off at first, but they get use to it. Out of 8 paddles 3 of the paddles ended up coming apart. As another reviewer said, use some good glue (gorilla, goop, etc) and that does the trick pretty well. Once I did that they were actually better than original and I haven't had any problems since. Also, I haven't had any problems with the balls at all. I paid more than the current listed price (under 8 bucks). Though I was disappointed with the tearing, the true end-result is that these are an awesome tool for teaching your kid to catch a baseball. My son was 3 & 1/2 when we started using this. After the season he just turned four and we didn't pick up a real glove again until this season started. In that 5-6 months we played catch with the velcro set maybe once/month on the average, inside the house, for about 5-10 minutes at the most. I was shocked when we did finally get his real glove out and play catch. He could track the ball and get his glove on it pretty much every time, catching some, most would fall out. He's not afraid of it at all, doesn't even pull away a little bit. For this price just buy 2 or 3 sets and don't worry about it. Just pile up the bad ones in the garage for later repairs in case they all tear.

4Exactly what I expect for the moneyMar 06, 2009

This game is exactly what I expected for the cost. The velcro on the "mitt" did come loose once, but once the upper ring was clicked back into the back circle, all was well again. My daughter is 2 1/2 and most of the time can get the ball back off the velcro.

1Cheap, careless manufacturingMay 25, 2009

We played with this for 5 minutes and one paddle came apart completely. OK. I didn't expect it to last a lifetime, but 5 minutes?? I guess this was our contribution of more plastic to the landfills. It's too bad, this is a fun game for the beach, but there doesn't seem to be a higher quality version of this on the market.

4Great tool for learning to catch...Jan 12, 2009
By Stephen Gereb
These are great for teaching your kid how to catch a baseball or softball. Once they get the hang of this, a glove's an easy transition. I agree with the earlier review that they break easily --- the tennis ball is too heavy for the platsic casing, so the fabric breaks free. A little bit of strong glue should do the trick. I'd give these 5 stars if they were constructed better, but what do you expect for less than $5...
