Description:

Croquet was introduced at the St Louis Olympic Games in 1904 as an Olympic sport. The EC6 set is different from our other sets because it has less expensive components. It is clearly better than the sets available in the warehouse or big box stores, but it is not of the same quality as our London Green or Scotland Yard sets. It comes with everything necessary for an official 6-wicket tournament game or the more familiar 9-wicket backyard game. Set includes 6 laminated solid wood mallets with 32 inch handles wrapped with towel wrapped grips. The 6 biaxially milled 12 ounce wooden croquet balls are lighter than tournament balls in our other sets. Wickets (9) are fashioned from 1/4 inch powdercoated solid steel rod, much thicker than coat hanger wire. The 2 wooden stakes are used in the nine wicket game to establish the finish and turning points. The set comes with the rules for both a 6 and 9 wicket game. The canvas bag holds everything and has handles and a shoulder strap for storage and carrying. Hand made in India.

Features:

Towel gripped mallets

Solid wooden croquet balls

Steel rod wickets

Boundary flags

Pamphlet on rules

5excellent qualityOct 28, 2004

well worth every penny. very good quality especially for the cost. my parents have a set from brookstone, which was ruined after one play. i looked around forever before buying this and i would highly recommend this set. one difference in the picture is that instead of the natural colored ball, i received a pink ball. i actually liked that better. shipping quotes were way off. i was quoted something like 2-4 weeks, but i received it within 1 week.

3The Jury is still outJun 20, 2006

I was so excited to receive this set-- I had read reviews and it looked like a top-notch set. First use was this weekend.. one game -- the balls are already dented and dinged... Not sure this is what should be happening -- they look pretty beat up after just one use. The other comment I have on the set is that the mallets are all the same--- meaning no color coding.. I figured that was a feature rather than a defect... Anyway, I'm considering making a call to the company to see about getting more durable balls. For this amount of money -- I believe they should be in better shape.

1A BIRTHDAY GIFT DISASTER!!!Jun 28, 2008
By Florida Resident
I should have bought a $39.99 set at a local store. But I wanted to give my husband a super birthday gift. IT WAS A DISASTER. His pole broke on our first game! The paint on the balls came off too! I felt like if I had bought a 2nd hand item. No quality control or true warranty from manufacturer (Dewey USA) who to my surprise was quite nasty about giving me a refund. Upon returning set, I had to pay all shipping costs. I lost $75.00, made a lowsy gift and made a fool of myself. DO NOT PURCHASE!!!!

5Top QualityJul 28, 2005
By Thayes "Garden Gal"
I had been shopping for a quality croquet set and all seemed "cheaply made" as were previously owned sets. Other sets never held up more than one season and none ever took extreme abuse. When I saw this set I thought the price was a little more than I wanted to pay but decided to make my final decision after receiving it. I was very pleased with the quality and workmanship (well worth the extra!) I also had my set less than 48 hours after ordering! I'm sure we will enjoy this set with family and friends for several years.

4Nice for the croquet enthusiast.Jul 07, 2008

Not a professional set, but decent. This company definitely has much better sets for a little more money; I was jealous when the catalog came with the set, and saw what I could have gotten (better bag, nicer mallets, etc) but all in all this is above and beyond my last set, and is definitely fun to play with.
